From September 11, 2021 to February 13, 2022, the Estensi Galleries present the exhibition Capa in color, an extraordinary selection of color shots by Robert Capa, a world-famous photographer. Curated by the International Center of Photography in New York, the exhibition is produced by the Ares Society with the Estensi Galleries and will be set up in the exhibition hall of the Estensi Galleries in Modena, which will host, after exhibitions dedicated to Steve McCurry and William Fox Talbot, a show on one of the greatest artists of photography of our time. Robert Capa is internationally known as a master of black and white photography, but he regularly worked with color films until his death in 1954. Although some photographs were published in newspapers of the time, most of the color shots had not yet been presented in a single exhibition. The exhibition features over 150 color images, personal letters, and notes from the magazines in which they were published. "Capa in color" offers the unique opportunity to explore the strong and decade-long bond of the master with color photography, through a fascinating journey that illustrates society in the post-war period. His talent in composing black and white was enormous, but the discovery of the potential of color films, almost halfway through his career, made it necessary to define a new approach. The exhibition was born from a project by Cynthia Young, curator of the Robert Capa collection at the International Center of Photography in New York, to present an unknown aspect of the master's career. Compared to what has been shown before, the exhibition aims to illustrate the author's particular approach to new photographic means and his extraordinary ability to integrate color into the works of photojournalists, created between the 1940s and 1950s. The exhibition was realized with the sponsorship of the Municipality of Modena.
