From February 6 to July 20, 2025, Pirelli HangarBicocca presents Improvisation in 10 Days, the first solo exhibition in Italy by Tarek Atoui (Beirut, Lebanon, 1980; lives and works in Paris), an artist and electroacoustic composer who uses sound as a medium to create installations, complex acoustic environments, and collaborative performances.
Known for his distinctive approach to music, Tarek Atoui explores the acoustic properties and the ways in which elements such as water, air, stone, and bronze absorb and reflect sound with unexpected nuances. The environments created by the combination of works in the space suggest listening experiences and stimulate non-traditional learning processes. Using electronic devices and software, the artist reflects on contemporary social and political realities, revealing how music and new technologies are important aspects of expression and identity.
In "Improvisation in 10 Days", a title drawn from the language of music, Atoui explores compositional potentials within a space. Using the exhibition space as a large blank canvas, the artist disassembles and reassembles the works and "improvises" movements, harmonies, and tunings to create a collective experience and a sonic environment. The exhibition is conceived as a true device capable of evolving and materializing over time.
