Arthub presents Flu 水 o (Fluxo), an immersive and cross-disciplinary project, winner of the Italian Council (9th Edition 2020), in the spaces of Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan. The project deals with burning themes in the relationship between distant eras and cultures and produces unprecedented contaminations between different disciplines and mediums: contemporary opera and performance, installations and dance, films and workshops.

The central theme of this visionary project is water, an indispensable element for life and a substance of immense poetic force that can be a place of death and annihilation at the same time, the heart of social, political and anthropological issues of urgent relevancè.

This duality of values is reflected in the very structure of Flu 水 o, which sees the coexistence of reenactments and reinterpretations of some performances by East Asian artists of the 1960s linked to water alongside a representation of the sarcastic chamber opera Mare Nostrum by Mauricio Kagel.

The Flu 水 o project was born from an idea by Luciana Galliano and is curated by Davide Quadrio.

The work bears the signature of Alessandro Sciarroni, who chooses to share the authorship of the project with various figures from the Italian and international contemporary scene starting from a close collaboration with Andrea Anastasio to whom he entrusts the scenes, the costumes of the musicians and the site specific installation by Mare Nostrum inspired by the waters of the Mediterranean which constitutes the stage set that will host the work of Kagel and the performances of the invited artists: Chiara Bersani - reenactment of Water Music (1965) by Shiomi Chieko; Anna Raimondo - The shapes of dreams return to the sea, 2021, based on Water Music by Shiomi Cheiko; Rossella Biscotti with Attila Faravelli - Takemitsu Toru reenactment: Water Music for magnetic tape, Tokyo 1960; Silvia Gribaudi - reenactment of Water Piece (1964) by Yoko Ono; Silvia Calderoni / Ilenia Caleo, reenactment of Covered in Detergent on Stage, Bathing in Water (1964) by Nam June Paik.

Mare Nostrum, one of the peaks of Kagel's musical theater, will be interpreted by the countertenor Kai Wessel and the baritone Miljenko Turk under the guidance of the conductor Arnaud Arbet at the head of the Bernasconi Ensemble with Elena Casoli, guitar and Yuka Ohta, percussion. The performance artist Muna Mussie will collaborate in the representation of the work.
