From 14 September to 14 January 2024
For the fifth edition of the Furla Series program, Fondazione Furla and GAM - Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Milano announce a solo exhibition by Suzanne Jackson, curated by Bruna Roccasalva.
The exhibition, the first dedicated to the artist by a European institution, will offer a look at the research that Suzanne Jackson has been carrying out for more than fifty years through a path that reconstructs its fundamental moments.
Suzanne Jackson is an American artist whose practice embraces a broad field of inquiry that explores the potential of painting and is nourished by experiences in dance, theater and poetry. The initial production of a pictorial and figurative nature, populated with characters, animals and references to nature, evolves over the years, progressively approaching abstraction, until arriving at the development of a very personal vocabulary in which painting takes on a sculptural and environmental dimension .
From the dream paintings of the Seventies to the radical experiments of the most recent "anti-canvas", the exhibition retraces the salient moments of the artist's production, through a selection of iconic works, unpublished works and new productions that build a dialogic relationship with the context and the museum collection.
Suzanne Jackson's exhibition is the fifth edition of the Furla Series project, and is the result of the collaboration between the Furla Foundation and GAM, a partnership that began in 2021 to promote annual exhibition projects that offer a unique opportunity for meetings between the masters of past and the protagonists of the contemporary.
