The show

ICA Milano - Istituto Contemporaneo per le Arti presents "Vicino al Cuore", the first solo exhibition in an Italian institution dedicated to Simone Forti (Florence, 1935), an Italian-American choreographer, dancer and visual artist. The exhibition will bring the attention of critics and the public to the poetics of Simone Forti, a key figure in the development of performance from the late 1950s to today.

The exhibition is curated by Chiara Nuzzi and Alberto Salvadori and will be open free to the public from Friday 29 November 2019 to Sunday 2 February 2020.

The most significant phases of Simone Forti 's artistic research from the 1960s to today are contextualized in the exhibition, collecting a selection of historical and unpublished works - including drawings, watercolors, installations, documentation and performance videos - closely linked to the biography of the artist. artist.

Simone Forti 's tireless artistic research goes beyond the boundaries of performance itself thanks to a practice in continuous dialogue between improvisation and experimentation that well represents the ethical, philosophical and intellectual reflection proposed by ICA Milano linked to the theme of the living, fil rouge that accompanies the entire programming of the Institution under the artistic direction of Alberto Salbvadori.

At the same time as Simone Forti's exhibition, in the ICA Milano project room, When The Towel Drops Vol 1 | Italy , a video installation by the Radha May collective, composed by Elisa Giardina Papa, Nupur Mathure Bathsheba Okwenje , will be presented in collaboration with Fondazione Il Lazzaretto .

The installation, curated by Claudia D'Alonzo, is a reflection on the themes of censorship and femininity in post-war Italian cinema and brings to light hundreds of archival documents and scenes from Italian and foreign films of the 1950s and 1960s. .
