From 29 March to 25 June 2023
The Sforza Castle | The Municipality of Milan presents the Showboat exhibition from Wednesday 29 March to Sunday 25 June 2023. Out and back, solo exhibition by the artist Giovanni Frangi (Milan, 1959) who, after eight years, returns to exhibit in the heart of Milan with an exhibition project curated by Giovanni Agosti. The exhibition winds its way through two exceptional environments within the walls of the Castello Sforzesco, tracing a chronological itinerary that returns an unprecedented glimpse of the rich artistic production of Giovanni Frangi.
On display for the occasion, over one hundred works, presented in an exhibition itinerary that combines the artist's extensive graphic production with a corpus of volumes documenting his exhibition activity from the 1980s to today. The visual and technical experiments explored over time are here completed and enriched by the constant attention that the artist reserves towards the documentation of his work, building a powerful reflection for images and texts and returning precious testimonies of his history. The common thread of the exhibition project takes shape in the creation of the two volumes Andata e Ritorno, published by the Mainz publishing house.
The books, created for the occasion, retrace the path traced by the Showboat exhibition and return its reflections, themes and visual fragments. Oscillating between experimentation and documentation, between images and texts, between "going" and "returning", the Showboat exhibition creates a precious snapshot of the work of Giovanni Frangi, whose two souls find their own ideal space in the rooms and courtyards of the Castello Sforzesco from Milan.
