From 12 November 2023 to 3 February 2024 we are waiting for you to visit the exhibition "San Francesco, Christmas and Greccio Variations on the theme of the Nativity between Italy and Flanders"

On the occasion of the significant anniversary of the Christmas of Greccio (1223-2023), we wish to remember the choice of Saint Francis of Assisi to celebrate the Christmas night mass with a sacred representation (such as a living nativity scene). The Saint's new vision determined a journey through the history of the representation of the Nativity which, shortly thereafter, took place with particular attention to the theme of the adoration of the shepherds. It also acquired particular importance for the development of the mendicant Orders during the 13th and 14th centuries, therefore, within the Museum's layout, fundamental works relating to the Nativity and the adoration of the shepherds will be displayed. The works already present in our collection will be accompanied by a fourteenth-century triptych by Andrea di Bartolo from the National Pinacoteca of Siena, by an unpublished precious painting from a private collection by the Flemish Caravaggist Gerard Seghers (Antwerp 1591 - 1651) which will be in dialogue with a print by Pieter de Jode (Antwerp 1606 - after 1674) which reproduces the opposite painting, completed by a devout poem from the Franciscan Museum in Rome.
