The show

On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the birth of Robert Capa (October 22, 1913) the Mudec pays tribute to the great Hungarian photographer with a personal exhibition that traces the main war and travel reportages that Capa made during his twenty-year career, years which coincided with the crucial moments in the history of the twentieth century. The exhibition “ Robert Capa. In History ”, at Mudec Photo from 11 November 2022 to 19 March 2023, is produced by 24 ORE Cultura – Gruppo 24 ORE , promoted by the Municipality of Milan-Culture and curated by Sara Rizzo .

Robert Capa (1913-1954) was only 25 years old when he was defined by the "Picture Post" as "the greatest war photojournalist in the world": it was the birth of a legend and a completely new way of doing photojournalism.

The Mudec Photo space - totally dedicated to art photography - is now in its sixth monographic exhibition and in just under four years has told the Milanese public about the giants of twentieth-century photography: Steve McCurry , Elliott Erwitt , Tina Modotti , Henri Cartier -Bresson . Mudec Photo's commitment therefore continues for autumn 2022 with a retrospective on the work - throughout a lifetime - of an artist who made photographic history of the twentieth century, Robert Capa .

Created thanks to the collaboration with the Magnum Photos agency, the exhibition - specially curated for the Mudec - brings together an exceptional corpus of photographs: over 80 photographic prints , some of which have never before been exhibited in an Italian exhibition, accompanied by some period documents from the Magnum collection.

Robert Capa. In History " , which wants to act as a forerunner of the celebrations for the 110th anniversary of the birth of the legendary photojournalist, tells the history of the twentieth century , the one with a capital S, through his black and white portraits and his war and travel reports , the photographer's lens made known to the world not only the horrors and miseries of the many armed conflicts that characterized the last century and the faces of the men and women who made history, but also the daily life made up of small moments of joy and desire of redemption, of present and future, of reality and dreams of ordinary people, indifferently from one part of the globe to another.
