From 1 October to 24 November 2019
The Atelier Pharaildis Van den Broeck Archive presents Project Room # 3. The invited artist is Andrea Kvas who has selected some works by Pharaildis Van den Broeck for which he will create display devices. The project is part of a series of Project Rooms which from February 2019 aims to raise awareness of the work and the figure of the Italian-Belgian artist, to experiment with new methods of research and enhancement of the artist's archive and to promote artistic production. Contemporary.
Andrea Kvas's research in the archive focuses on some drawings, notes and maquettes of frames that Phara designed during his artistic career but never completed. As shown in a letter dated 2 October 2006, sent in response to Phara by the Schleiper company in Brussels, the frames she had in mind for her works were so special that they could not be made by a mere performer: "These creations require a lot of research and testing, and we have no way to present a model to you. [...] You ask us to create a work of art, but you are the artist. You are the only person who can assist and guide the hand of a performer. "
The project therefore involves, not a technician, but another artist, Andrea Kvas who, studying the archive materials, will give concrete form to some of these projects which for Phara would have been the real finalization of some paintings.
