The show

On the occasion of the centenary of the famous Milanese school of arts for the liturgy, from 9 December 2021 to 16 January 2022 the Stelline Foundation hosts the exhibition The beauty of the sacred. Milan and the Beato Angelico School 1921-2021, curated by Jacopo Benedetti, Umberto Bordoni, Riccardo Cavallaro, Alessandro Nanni with Giovanni Chiaramonte.

Drawing on the extraordinary wealth of the photographic archive of the Beato Angelico School, the exhibition itinerary - set up in the Quadriportico of the Stelline Foundation - offers a narrative that, through 40 photographs and descriptive texts, deals with the development of the relationship between the School and the context. civil and ecclesial. In particular, it wants to offer visitors an overview of the aspects that in a century have inextricably linked the institution to the city that welcomes it.

In fact, the exhibition aims to reflect and highlight the contribution offered by the School, during this century of its life, in particular to the city of Milan and the Lombardy region, while at the same time indicating the lines for its renewed presence in the current city context. and international.

Founded in the Lombard capital in 1921 by Mons.Giuseppe Polvara, the Beato Angelico School is an Italian expression of the liturgical movement and of the dialogue between the Church and the arts: in these hundred years of presence, in fact, it has built, restored, adapted and decorated hundreds of churches in Italy and abroad, training thousands of students including the photographer Gabriele Basilico, the director Ermanno Olmi, the architect Mario Botta, the artists Marcello Chiarenza and Adrian Paci.
