I don't see boundaries between design, art, and the art of nature. Kris Ruhs is always attracted to creating boundaries, in order to cross them, whether real or imaginary. The sudden change in weather always brings an instantaneous change in perception, the need for shelter, or the search for a melody. "Calm before the Storm" represents change, the momentarily suspended moment, in a birdcage of branches and vines where the fantastic birds also remain still in time, in this instant. Known for his extraordinary ability to bring a smile of recognition to the almost human nature expressed by animals in his sculptures and animal drawings, Ruhs brings external time into our conscious feeling. The spiral of wire welcomes migratory birds to shelter, suspended in the search for rest, to share with us the natural world that expresses their beauty and freedom with a fragile lyricism.
