Fondazione ICA Milano presents, from Wednesday 25 January to Saturday 18 March 2023, the solo exhibition of the artist Chemutai Ng'ok (Kenya, 1989), entitled An impression that may possibly last forever and curated by

An impression that may possibly last forever is Chemutai Ng'ok's first solo exhibition in Europe, and presents ten paintings and a selection of drawings specially created for the occasion with the intention of exploring and deepening the difficult theme of conflict.

Trained in South Africa and with a specialization in painting and drawing, Chemutai Ng'ok has defined over the years an artistic path of an international character strongly oriented on contemporary politics, with particular attention to social issues and the long-standing legacy of colonialism. From the protests of the FeesMustFall university movement in South Africa in 2015 and 2016 to the presidential elections that rocked Kenya in 2017, Ng'ok draws inspiration from experiences that have involved her firsthand to reflect on the dynamics of power that innervate society and on the impact that these have on the collective psyche.

Chemutai Ng'ok uses painting as a privileged means of expression and is inspired by key events and figures drawn from the reality that surrounds her. The artist represents solitary and collective bodies that dissolve and interact with each other on the canvas, recalling the symbolic nature of power through atmospheres that are at times unreal and crossed by strong currents of psychological tension.

With an exhibition itinerary that comes to life on the first floor of the Foundation, the exhibition An impression that may possibly last forever invites the visitor to reflect on the instability and transience of the times we are called to go through, setting up a story full of nuances that does not exclude the 'accompaniment of images characterized by a strong sense of threat and welcoming atmospheres, full of warmth and intimacy.
