From 21 February to 14 June 2020 , the exhibition Cesare Colombo will be held in the Viscontea room of the Castello Sforzesco in Milan . Photographs 1952-2012, curated by Silvia Paoli, with Silvia and Sabina Colombo, and in collaboration with Italo Lupi, curator of the layout and graphics on display.

The exhibition therefore intends to pay homage to Cesare Colombo by presenting over one hundred photographs, from 1952 to 2012, dedicated to the city of Milan and its multiple cultural, economic, political and social aspects, thus offering a lively portrait of the Lombard metropolis along sixty years of urban development and major transformations.

The exhibition project was made possible thanks to the donation of one hundred photographs that the heirs took to the Civic Photographic Archive of Milan in 2019, selecting the most important images dedicated to Milan and examples of his entire career. These photographs significantly integrate the funds of the Civic Photographic Archive dedicated to the city and allow the general public to approach the work of one of the most interesting Italian photographers.

The exhibition presents, through the layout and the peculiar graphic solutions of Italo Lupi, with whom Colombo had a long working relationship and friendship, the biographical and professional story of Cesare Colombo in its main junctions, deepened also thanks to the consultation of numerous archival and bibliographic sources made available by the Cesare Colombo Archive. It was thus possible to give rise to a philological reconstruction of his career, also highlighting aspects that were less known up to now. On display it will also be possible to see some unpublished films from the sixties and seventies.

The exhibition and the catalog are therefore the result of a scientific research work that we hope will make a further contribution to the knowledge of this important author of Italian photography, also opening up new study horizons.
