From 15 September to 26 February 2023
Exhibition organized by Pirelli HangarBicocca, Milan, Tate Modern, London and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
Among the most prominent living artists, Bruce Nauman (Fort Wayne, Indiana, 1941; lives and works in New Mexico) has marked the history of contemporary art from the mid-1960s to today, with pioneering research that spans various media: installation, video, sculpture, performance, photography, drawing and sound. His artistic production denotes a singular interest in understanding the human experience, its conventions and the deeper aspects of the psyche, investigated through the perception of the body, the relationship with space, time and language.
In her practice there is also a frequent use of puns that explore alternative methods of communication.Organized in collaboration with Tate Modern in London (7 October 2020 - 21 February 2021) and Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam (5 June - 24 October 2021) the exhibition in Pirelli HangarBicocca will be characterized by a specific focus on Nauman's spatial and architectural research. In addition to several works already exhibited in London and Amsterdam, the exhibition will include a considerable selection of his famous corridors and rooms. By highlighting formal relationships, developments and variations, the exhibition will explore for the first time in their entirety Nauman's experiments in terms of spatial experience, architectural approach, use of light, sound, language and video.
