From 12 April to 10 February 2019
The Museum of Ancient Art of the Castello Sforzesco hosts an intervention by Barry X Ball, a Californian sculptor (1955) who has directed part of his most recent research to the reworking of famous sculptures, in a constant tension between tradition and innovation, high technology and history , essentiality and new meanings.
In the Sala degli Scarlioni (room XV), which houses some masterpieces of Lombard Renaissance sculpture, an unprecedented interpretation by Barry X Ball of Michelangelo's Pietà is presented to the public for the first time.
The work is placed in the pietra serena niche built in the mid-1950s by the BBPR architecture studio where Michelangelo's Pietà Rondanini was exhibited until 2015.
The Pietà by Barry X Ball (2011-2018), carved in Iranian white onyx, enters into an ideal dialogue with Michelangelo's original sculpture, now in the Rondanini Pietà Museum in the Cortile delle Armi of the Castle.
