From 27 November to 21 September 2025
"Your sky was sea, your sea was sky" by Adrian Paci is the site-specific installation of the agora for 2024 and anticipates the exhibition "Travelogue. Stories of journeys, migrations, and diasporas" (March 2025).
The installation, curated by Katya Inozemtseva and Sara Rizzo, transforms the space of the agora with a mosaic of blue-green shades that recall the colors of the sea. Each fragment of this seemingly abstract composition is actually a detail taken from photographs published in newspaper articles about shipwrecks of migrants in the Mediterranean.
The artist does not show us the disaster, nor the submerged or the saved; rather, he chooses the detail that unites all the stories told, sometimes the protagonist of the photograph, other times relegated to the background: the sea.
The cuts made by the artist isolate a poetic detail from a dramatic image and magnify the rough and grainy rendering of the printed paper, where the halftone intentionally becomes visible, a distinctive feature of the composition.
