SPARKme Space Academy

SPARKme Space Academy

SPARKme Space Academy is a Center for the dissemination of scientific culture and interconnection between different knowledge created in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI).

SPARKme Space Academy consists of several stages.

The itinerary traces a path that starts from the Moon and ends with the planet Mars. The Moon is told through an iconographic exhibition curated by the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) and refers to Galileo's first studies dating back to 1600. The journey continues with the illustrated representation of the Milky Way studied starting from the 2nd century AD when Claudius Ptolemy began the observation of the stars. The information material of both stages, Moon and Milky Way, can be integrated by framing the QR (Quick Response) Code in order to establish a hyperlink to links and media for faster use of the contents The Planetarium is the heart of the journey, it is a magical place that offers the opportunity to watch shows on the mysteries of the Universe. It consists of a dome 7 meters in diameter with a reclined seat to facilitate viewing upwards towards the stars. The large surface of the vault acts as a projection screen which is a perfect mix of hardware, software and ultra-modern sound system which guarantees the public a unique show. The oncloud system allows connection with planetariums around the world using the same technology. It also offers the possibility of connecting with telescopes located in the most remote corners of the Earth and looking at the same sky observed at that moment by the astronomer. The walk continues with the space station and the view - while sitting - of the Earth from Space. At this point of the journey, after leaving the Moon, we land on Mars where we meet the RoboMARS, the exploratory robots designed to travel on the surface of the red planet, which roam among its hills created with the stones of the Murgia of Matera. These robots can be remote controlled to simulate the collection of cosmic material until generating a game over when a collision with an obstacle occurs. In this space, educational 'coding' workshops are organized which use two programming languages - scratch and Python - accessible to school children of all levels of education. The walk ends with the first 5D Cinema (Cinesfera) of the Southern Italy, which allows you to live an experience with a high adrenaline content: the classic cinema hall is transformed into a highly technological digital scenario that uses VR, AR or XR elements. The armchairs - equipped with a particular movement system - trigger an oscillatory motion which - together with a series of special effects and VR (virtual reality) glasses - enrich vision and guarantee an extraordinary experience. The video contents (digital contents) used by the system range from the recreational scenario reserved for the little ones to that of advanced training and industry 4.0.
