The birthplace of Pablo Picasso is the home of origin of the Spanish master. It is located in Plaza de la Merced 15 and was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument of National Interest on 25 March 1983. Since 20 February 1991 it has been included in the Spanish Museum System.
The house museum aims to enhance, study, communicate and disseminate the work and figure of Pablo Picasso and his artistic vision. The Museo Casa Natal Picasso houses a collection of works of art by over 200 artists. Among the pieces of the Museum is the preparatory drawing notebook where Picasso prepared "Las señoritas de Avignon" which was then made in 1907. The notebook contains 84 drawings and a nucleus of graphic works by Picasso, which covers aesthetic periods between 1905 and 1971, with various techniques such as etching, linocut or drypoint.
As for the collection of engravings and lithographs, this is made up of more than two hundred works created between 1930 and 1964, which form a special whole, to the point of being the second most important in the world.
Not to be forgotten are the 55 books illustrated by Picasso and other artists including Miró, Chagall and Max Ernst, for a total of 547 prints, of which 465 by the Malaga artist, with very varied techniques and iconography. In addition, it has a selection of 35 ceramic pieces made between 1947 and 1969. The Casa Natal also has numerous works in temporary storage, including the Picasso Suite de los Saltimbanquis etchings folder, donated by the Málaga Foundation.
Overall, the Casa Natal Museum has about 7,000 works of which 6,924 works in real estate, deposits, sales, assignments and loans exhibited in temporary exhibitions.
