The Wilhelm Hach Museum is a museum of modern and contemporary art in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, a city on the border of the Rhine very close to Mannheim. Thanks to its collection of masterpieces by artists such as Kasimir Sewerinowitsch Malewitsch, Piet Mondrian, Wassily Kandinsky, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, the Wilhelm Hack Museum is today the most important museum of modern and contemporary art in Rhineland-Palatinate. The museum's visual landmark is its ceramic facade, which Catalan artist Joan Miró designed in 1980 on the southeast side of the building. 55 meters wide and 10 meters high, it is made up of 7200 colored tiles, it is one of the greatest works created by Mirò. The impetus for the establishment of the museum was the generous donation of businessman Wilhelm Hack, who bequeathed his art collection to the city of Ludwigshafen in 1971. The museum also preserves ancient artifacts, such as the Gondorf artifact, it is a funerary artifact from the migration period with Roman and Franconian funerary objects, discovered shortly before the start of the Second World War in the community of Gondorf on the Moselle and soon after entered the collection by museum founder Wilhelm Hack. The artifact is not on permanent display in the museum, but is displayed at irregular intervals. There is also a medieval collection, consisting of works of art created between 1200 and 1550. It includes works in metal, ivory, wood and stone sculptures, panels, books and glass paintings.
