The Museum für Natur und Umwelt is a science and natural history museum in Lübeck. Opened in 1893, the museum is located in the immediate vicinity of the Lübeck Cathedral, to which it is connected via a cloister. Before entering the museum, the visitor will be strongly struck by the presence of a sperm whale skeleton, placed outside the museum space. The core of the museum's collection derives from the collections of the naturalist and physician Johann Julius Walbaum (mid-18th century). It focuses in particular on the nature and fauna of Lübeck and the Holstein territory. The museum collection is divided into zoological, botanical and geological sections.
