The Buddenbrookhaus- Heinrich und Thomas Mann Zentrum is a museum in Lübeck dedicated to the two writers Thomas and Heinrich Mann. It is housed in a 1758 building with a Rococo façade belonging to the family of the two writers since the 19th century, where the latter spent a lot of time during their childhood. Inaugurated in 2000, the museum takes its name from The Buddenbrooks - Decadence of a Family, Thomas Mann's first novel, published in 1901: in fact, many of the rooms in the novel are openly inspired by the house. Through photos, videos, documents and objects, the museum traces the history of the large Mann family. It is also possible to visit the reconstruction of the rooms that inspired the novel, such as the large dining room. At the disposal of visitors there are copies of the novel, for reading in the venue that allows a complete immersion in the bourgeois world of Lübeck at the end of the 19th century.
The museum also presents numerous exhibitions, events and conferences.
