The Newarke Houses Museum is a public museum in Leicester, England. It is formed by the museum of the Royal Leicestershire Regiment and has a number of exhibits tracing the history of post-medieval and contemporary Leicester.
The museum is therefore divided into buildings: Wyggeston's Chantry House built in 1511 and Thomas Skeffington's 17th century Skeffington House. Both houses were converted into a museum in 1953 as part of the Queen's coronation celebrations.
The collections kept in the museum contain objects that belonged to Daniel Lambert including his chair and clothes. Lambert was a Leicester breeder who lived in 1800 and became famous as the largest man in Great Britain (he weighed more than two hundred kilos).
The museum also houses an exhibition of toys from Tudor times to the present day, the Leicester sock industry and the history of the city itself. At the Newarke Houses Museum it is also possible to visit an exhibition on the Royal Leicestershire Regiment: here are the drums and mascots. The museum houses a large collection of medals and various objects that tell the story of the war. Outside, the historic gardens have labyrinths.
