From 13 November to 12 December 2021
The Mauro Benatti Archive, in collaboration with the Municipality of Lecco and the Lecco Urban Museum System, is pleased to announce the return to the Torre Viscontea of the works of Mauro Benatti (1947-2014), exactly fifteen years after its first exhibition in this museum seat. The inauguration will take place on 12 November, at 5.00 pm, in the conference room of Palazzo delle Paure. Later it will be possible to visit the preview exhibition at the Torre Viscontea, with limited access.
The exhibition will offer a selection of the paintings and sculptures of the artist from Airuno, in his first retrospective in a public museum after his death. The exhibition will revolve around two fundamental themes in Benatti's artistic research: the movements of the human body and the love for the sculpture of matter. These two aspects of Benatti's art will find their unity in the last room, dedicated to the artist's most renowned works, namely the sculptures in wire mesh. An imposing metal mesh by Benatti will also be exhibited at Palazzo delle Paure for the duration of the exhibition, in order to make the exhibition interact with the Si.MUL Contemporary Art Gallery.
The exhibition was conceived primarily to celebrate the fifteen-year anniversary of the exhibition “5 movements for one body only”. In the first room, drawings and sculptures related to this fundamental cycle in Benatti's art will be exhibited, a true hymn to freedom and the beauty of the feminine. The two side rooms will also be dedicated to this theme, which will be populated by sculptures and paintings of Amazons and mermaids. These rooms will allow to shed light on two central aspects in the artist's production: his interest in mythology and his love for the poorest and humblest sculptural materials, whose silent beauty is highlighted by the works of Benatti.
