From September 7th to October 6th, 2024, the Viscontea Tower hosts the exhibition ""The sunset of the landscape. Ancient and new horizons in the naturalistic art of Lecco and Lombardy"

The exhibition, curated by the Lumis Arte Association in collaboration with the Municipality of Lecco and the Urban Museum System of Lecco, with the contribution of the Community Foundation of Lecco and Acinque, aims to answer an important question: can naturalistic painting still be relevant today? Is it possible that its importance has set forever?

The exhibition will bring together historic artists from the province of Lecco such as Ennio Morlotti, Emilio Gola, and Donato Frisia with historically established Lombard artists, but always worth rediscovering (Antonio Scaccabarozzi, Tino Vaglieri...). Space will be given to young contemporary artists (Stefano Caimi, Sara Invernizzi...) and the use of various creative techniques (oils, drawings, sculptures, installations, and photographs).

The exhibition will feature 60 works produced by 21 artists, not only from the province of Lecco but also from other Lombard areas (Milan, Bergamo, Pavia, Como). The exhibition will be divided into three sections, dedicated to the dialogue between painting, photography, and nature, the relationship/clash between abstract art and nature, and finally, the dialogue/debate between technology, human beings, and the natural environment.

The exhibition will start with one of the last paintings created by Emilio Gola during his lifetime (Venice), which will be displayed along with two other works related to his beloved village of Mondonico (Olgiate Molgora, Lecco). Ten works by Ennio Morlotti will be presented, including his vision of the Dossi of Mondonico and the Adda in Imbersago: there will also be a focus on his latest Bathers and some of his early landscapes of the city of Lecco. There will also be an in-depth look at the production of the Merate artist Antonio Scaccabarozzi (eight works), including some unpublished pieces.
