Created by Henri Matisse himself in 1952 to keep his works in a museum in his hometown, the Musée Matisse preserves numerous works that testify the pictorial work of one of the greatest artists of the modern era. The museum is located in the Palais Fénelon, whose origins date back to the 11th century. The museum collection is further enriched by the collection of the abstract artist Auguste Herbin and the Tériade collection, publisher who has donated to the museum numerous books and engravings by artists such as Chagall, Léger, Mirò, Le Corbusier. The museum also has a large exhibition space for temporary exhibitions.
