The Musée Hébert is a house museum located in La Tronche, a town not far from Grenoble. Founded in 1935, the museum is dedicated to the artistic work of Ernest Hébert, a French symbolist painter who lived in the 19th century. The museum is located in a vast space of two and a half hectares, still imbued with the artist's Italian memories: in fact, the passion for Italy accompanies him throughout his life. It includes a 17th-18th century house, a garden with imported plants and trees - such as cedar, Canadian maple, water lilies -, vineyards and vegetable gardens. Hébert spent several months there in the summer. After his death, his wife Gabrielle began to gather his works, objects and correspondences to make the house a museum. The museum, through the works of the artist, his friends and his students, traces the career of this academic painter. With its furniture and numerous mementos, the house preserves the memory of the painter's family life. The annex of the house (called De l'Autre côté, on the other hand, due to its position opposite the main building) is now used for temporary exhibitions.
