The Kington Museum in the small town of Kington opened in 1986. It is based in what used to be the stables of the defunct King's Head Inn. The museum focuses on the history of the city since prehistoric times. The exhibits on display here change frequently. Today, exhibits relating to the First World War, agriculture, grinding, Church Street Through Time, the Lady Hawkins School, the 1950s and a beautiful collection of watches can be visited. There is also a replica of the Kington railway station dating back to 1947 complete with operational locomotives. A beautiful rush holder and ostrich egg brought back from Kenya in 1950 by a military man, a constrel and a milkmaid's yoke have also recently been added to the collection - all of which have been incorporated into current exhibits. Thanks to donations and an important fundraiser, the museum has grown and currently occupies four rooms
