The Kunsthalle zu Kiel is the largest museum in the city of Kiel. Its collection includes works ranging from the German Renaissance to contemporary art. The collection of modern art is particularly present, with artistic works from the 19th century, such as romantic painting and paintings by Russian "traveling painters", works by German impressionists and expressionists, and works from the New Objectivity movement. The collection includes more than 1,200 paintings and 300 sculptures, including works by Emil Nolde, Georg Baselitz, Neo Rauch and Gerhard Richter. The graphic collection is also very rich: it includes around 30,000 works, including autographed drawings by Rembrandt, Adolf Menzel and Otto Dix. Finally, there are photographic and video art collections. In addition to the permanent collections, thematic and monographic temporary exhibitions offer a glimpse into the contemporary art scene and integrate the museum into the international art scene.
