The Stauròs Museum of Contemporary Sacred Art is located in the city of Isola del Gran Sasso d'Italia, in the province of Teramo. The museum is located in the sanctuary of San Gabriele and is considered the first museum of this type in all of Italy. It was born in 1973 with the simultaneous establishment of the Staurós Internazional Association, as a reference point for contemporary and Christian art. Thanks to the Biennial of Sacred Art which took place in Pescara in 1984, the Museum has acquired many works. The main objective of the exhibition space is to convey faith through art and culture. The collection includes works with standard themes: the crucifixion and passion in their interpretations and reworkings. Among the artists who intervened and exhibited at the museum are: Ernesto Treccani, Nicola Salvatore, Umberto Mastroianni, Lorenzo Guerrini, Giuliano Giuliani and many others. The Museum hosts temporary exhibitions and the Biennial of Sacred Art, now an event expected by all national contemporary artists.
