The Kestner Gesellschaft is an association and museum space in Hanover dedicated to contemporary art. Founded in 1916, it is today one of the largest German art associations. He deals with organizing and promoting contemporary art exhibitions, both collective and personal. Immediately after its foundation, artists such as Wassily Kadinsky, El Lissitzky, Käthe Kollwitz and Kurt Schwitters exhibited in the Kestner Gesellschaft. Under the leadership of first director Erich Küppers and his wife Sophie Küppers, the Kestner Gesellschaft has established itself as a vibrant place for cultural exchange. Since its foundation, the association has organized over 700 temporary exhibitions, helping to showcase the artistic landscape of its time.
To make its contents understandable for all, the exhibitions are accompanied by a diversified educational program for different age groups: from free guided tours to exciting lectures and creative workshops.
