IMMH - Internationales Maritimes Museum Hamburg is a museum in Hamburg. It is located in the HafenCity district. Opened in 2008, the museum houses Peter Tamm's collection, comprising nearly 40,000 different objects including ships, models, uniforms and objects of maritime art, as well as more than a million photographs. Peter Tamm began collecting objects of this type in 1934, when he was only six years old. The museum's collection is spread over 10 floors of the building, for a total of about 130,000 square meters of exhibition space. Among the major attractions is the sector dedicated to ships, with the exhibition of ships from 1815 to today. These include a 3,000-year-old canoe and a replica of Sir Ernest Shackleton's imperial trans-Antarctic expedition boat "James Caird", used by the German explorer Arved Fuchs. The museum's archive also includes 47 original letters from Lord Horation Nelson, famous for his Trafalgar victory. In addition to the permanent collection, the museum also organizes various temporary exhibitions: among others, the one dedicated to the Vikings was a great success.
