Hauteville House is a house museum located on the island of Guernsey, in the English Channel. It is part of the Maison de Victor Hugo in Paris, as it is the house where the novelist Victor Hugo lived during his exile: 15 of the total 19 years of his exile spent here. It was also Victor Hugo's only property. It was in this house that Victor Hugo wrote several of his masterpieces, including Les Misérables. The house is also an architectural work of art, thanks to its layouts and decorations, designed by Victo Hugo himself. Hauteville Hause remained the property of the family until 1927, when it was donated to the city of Paris by the novelist's niece, on the occasion of the centenary of the Romantic Literary Movement. The house is built on 5 floors plus a terrace and garden.
