The Riverside Museum is a Glasgow museum overlooking the River Clyde, a location from which it owes its name.
The Riverside Museum was designed by world famous architect Zaha Hadid who chose the site of a former shipyard for its construction, as part of the urban redevelopment project known as Glasgow Harbor.
The building is modern, fluid and dynamic and covers a total area of 11,000 square meters and houses a huge tunnel-shaped exhibition gallery, about 150 meters long, all yellow where the exhibits have been placed or floor height or on large "shelves" on the walls. The Riverside Museum's collection includes approximately 21,000 objects representing various means of transport, including cars, trams, boats, buses, lorries, carriages, motorcycles, horse-drawn carriages, steam locomotives, railway carriages, skateboards and bicycles. .
The Riverside has a total of about 3,000 pieces exhibited in thematic sections, along with various reconstructions, scale models, and 90 touch-screen workstations with videos, images and texts. The permanent exhibition focuses on the history of shipbuilding in Glasgow.
The Riverside Museum's program of events and activities offers guided tours, educational activities for children and adults, temporary exhibitions and special events.
