The Mackintosh House is a house museum reproduced in a modern concrete building. It stands on the site of one of the two rows of terraced houses that once occupied Hillhead Street and Southpark Avenue. Among these houses, later demolished in the 1960s, there was also that of Glasgow architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife, Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh, an artist. The two lived there from 1906 to 1914.

The University of Glasgow then reconstructed the shape of the house about 100 meters from the site of the original. The Mackintosh House preserves the main interiors of the original house including the dining room, the study-living room and the bedroom. An attempt was made to replicate the layout of the rooms in the old building with a terrace as exactly as possible. The Mackintosh House presents the interiors reassembled to the smallest detail, as they were in the original Mackintosh house, including pieces of furniture and furnishings.
