The infinite Genoa exhibition. Glimpses on the city between Noack and Bayter was born from the collaboration between the Museum of Contemporary Art of Villa Croce and the Documentation Center for the History, Art and Image of Genoa - DOCSAI, with the aim of reflecting on the idea of the city through its image reproduced by artists of different backgrounds and historical fields: the nineteenth-century vision of the photographer Alfred Noack and the contemporary one of the artist Federico Romero Bayter.

Starting from a selection of photos of Genoa signed by Alfred Noack (Dresden 1833 - Genoa 1895), one of the most famous photographers active in Italy in the second half of the 19th century, a dialogue was designed with the large oil canvases made expressly for the exhibition by the Colombian artist Federico Romero Bayter (Santa Fè di Bogatà 1981), nominated talent of Genoa in 2019. The exhibition set-up is very spectacular: large scenic wings expand the photos to make them almost real spaces, where the visitor can enter to admire both the nineteenth-century originals and the numerous albumen prints, and the personal interpretation that comes from a contemporary artist, inspired by the proposed urban subjects.

In the rooms on the ground floor and on the first floor of the museum, about twenty canvases by Bayter are exhibited, about forty reproductions in albumin, about ten original plates and five large-format reproductions of as many photos. To display the original plates it was necessary to design two display cases with suitable supports and with a backlighting system that would not damage the materials, just as for the display of the albumins a support was designed which allows perfect reading and preservation of the photos.
