Decades after the last exhibition dedicated to the maritime atmospheres longly explored by the artist, Casa del Mutilato di Genova - Fondazione A.N.M.I.G. presents its new production Antonio Giuseppe Santagata. Strong Sea" — a project that stands as the second stage within the enhancement path of the lesser-known pictorial production of one of the cultural protagonists of the first half of the Italian twentieth century who (still today) indissolubly links his name and his story to the testimony of war. If last year the institution chose to delve into the intense spirituality expressed by the painter, this new appointment focuses on a very personal perception of the Ligurian Sea. Figures, boats, and natural disasters interact and together articulate an untamed narrative of the waters that surround the different countries along the region's coasts. Expectation, apprehension, hope, and fear are the four feelings that characterize the scenes presented. Sensations that define a present, ours, made of speed and within which a constant sense of powerlessness can be felt. The exhibition, supported by the Presidency of Casa del Mutilato di Genova - Fondazione A.N.M.I.G. Liguria (Guido Vinacci) and curated by Matteo Lenuzza (Cultural Director of Casa del Mutilato di Genova - Fondazione A.N.M.I.G. Liguria), will be open to the public from November 7 to 21, 2025, at the institutional headquarters in Corso Aurelio Saffi - 1. Realized in collaboration with Lorenzo Santagata (Santagata Collection), it falls within the horizon of events organized following the date of November 4: both National Unity Day and Purple Tuesday. If the first commemoration intersects Santagata's commitment as a soldier first and then as a witness, the second anniversary involves him as a war disabled person. Since 2018, in fact, the first Tuesday of November of each year testifies — as an international day — the need to improve accessibility in cities, in order to involve the entire citizenship in cultural (and non-cultural) initiatives. Historically committed to inclusivity, also from an architectural point of view, the Foundation adheres to this significant anniversary through the exhibition "Antonio Giuseppe Santagata.
