The MAGMA - Museum of Cast Iron Arts in the Maremma is located in Follonica, a famous town for seaside tourism. The museum is located in the area of the former Ilva foundry of the City. The museum was born in 1988 following the restoration of the industrial area with the aim of witnessing the tradition of the city. The exhibition aims to retrace the history of the factory and the industrial city of Follonica. One of the first works you come across is the cast iron bust of Leopold II of Lorraine from 1844, to whom the development of the steel industry is due. Interesting is the presence of the blast furnace where once metal materials were melted. You will find the tools and instruments necessary for the iron smelting process. Of great interest is the exhibition on the second floor of the building entirely dedicated to historical finds from the Etruscan age to the contemporary Follonica. The Etruscan finds on display were found in the Valle Petraia site near the Aurelia highway. The Etruscan objects refer to the smelting process and the construction of the ovens. The MAGMA hosts an important documentation and study center on the territory, on the museum, the records of the finds and, obviously, the iron and steel activity of the city.
