The show

The exhibition " Women in balance. 1955 - 1965 " will be staged at the Ferragamo Museum in Florence from 20 May 2022 to 18 April 2023. The exhibition is a tribute to all women and in particular to Wanda Miletti Ferragamo.

Wanda Miletti Ferragamo from 1960 until her death on October 19, 2018, was the intelligent and solid guide of the Salvatore Ferragamo brand, managing to make it one of the most representative brands of Italian fashion. In August 1960, when her beloved husband Salvatore dies, Wanda makes a cultural choice, in the broad sense of the term, and decides to take up his entrepreneurial legacy to transform a women's shoe workshop into a fashion house. where children can give continuity to that line of dedication, innovation and creativity started by Salvatore.

The presence of women in Italian history in the 1950s and 1960s also allows us to shed light on at least some features of the country's modernization, a process in which women are subject and object at the same time. The many female figures who are the protagonists of the change in the different social and professional fields often undertake, in their private lives, a peculiar path in search of new models of existence which continues to interrogate our present, as demonstrated by the interviews with young women among the 18 and 35 years old , collected in a video present in the exhibition, signed by Giorgia Benazzo and produced by Rampello & Partners Creative Studio.

Every female experience that the exhibition itinerary evokes can be interpreted as an original journey towards the construction of a peculiar way of " being a woman ", the result of both the historical context and personal research. The narration that insists on the fact that women, entering the public scene, have also chosen nuanced solutions in a constant search for new balances between work and family relationships can only lead us to underline the continuous, imaginative and extraordinary creativity, which has characterized and continues to distinguish women's lives, their choices, a different vision of the world and of life; there is no doubt, however, that gender difference has acted and still acts in a thousand subtle ways, shaping behaviors, individual models, social relationships.
