ongoing Women in balance

The show

The exhibition " Women in balance. 1955 - 1965 " is staged at the Ferragamo Museum in Florence from May 20, 2022 to April 18, 2023. The exhibition is a tribute to all women and in particular to Wanda Miletti Ferragamo.

Wanda Miletti Ferragamo from 1960 until her death on October 19, 2018, was the intelligent and solid guide of the Salvatore Ferragamo brand, managing to make it one of the most representative brands of Italian fashion. In August 1960, when her beloved husband Salvatore dies, Wanda makes a cultural choice, in the broad sense of the term, and decides to pick up the entrepreneurial legacy to transform a women's shoe workshop into a fashion house. where children can give continuity to that path of dedication, innovation and creativity started by Salvatore.

The presence of women in the Italian history of the 1950s and 1960s also makes it possible to illuminate at least some traits of the country's modernization, a process in which women are subject and object at the same time. The many female figures who become protagonists of change in different social and professional fields often undertake, in private life, a peculiar journey in search of new models of existence that continues to question our present, as the interviews with young women among the 18 and 35 years old , collected in a video in the exhibition, signed by Giorgia Benazzo and the production of Rampello & Partners Creative Studio.

Each female experience that the exhibition evokes can be read as an original journey towards the construction of a peculiar way of " being a woman ", the result of both the historical context and personal research. The narrative that insists on the fact that women, entering the public scene, have also chosen nuanced solutions in a constant search for new balances between work and family relationships can only induce to underline the continuous, imaginative and extraordinary creativity, which has characterized and continues to distinguish the life of women, their choices, a different vision of the world and of life; there is no doubt, however, that gender difference has acted and still acts in a thousand subtle ways, shaping behaviors, individual models, social relationships.
