From 1 July to 29 October the works selected for the 62nd edition of the Faenza Prize, International Biennial of Contemporary Art Ceramics, will be on display.
The Competition is among the most important competitions in the world in the contemporary ceramic art sector. Established for the first time in 1938 as a national event, it was extended to the international sphere in 1963. Banned annually, except in the years of the Second World War, it has become biennial since 1989 and has seen the participation of thousands during its more than sixty editions of Italian and foreign artists.
This edition saw great participation, especially at an international level, which demonstrates how ceramics has now become a very popular medium for contemporary art.
The Jury - this year composed of the director of MIC Faenza, Claudia Casali, Judith Schwartz, president of the Museum of Ceramic Art-NY, Ranti Tjan, director of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Tomohiro Daicho, senior curator of MOMAK in Kyoto , Irene Biolchini, guest curator of MIC Faenza - selected 70 works from 1101 candidate works by 723 artists (or groups), equal to 570 in the over category and 153 in the under 35 category. 60 nations participated.
The 62nd Edition presents something new: the winner of the under 35 category will be invited to Faenza to hold a residency in which he will produce works that will be exhibited in the Autumn in the Project Room of the MIC Faenza. Furthermore, the artist will hold a workshop with ISIA design students to explore the new designs of contemporary ceramics.
