The Internationaal Klompenmuseum was started in 1990 with the collection of the Wietzes brothers . Eiso (1916-1977) and Egbert (1925-1988) were the last clog manufacturers in Eelde, Drenthe, the Netherlands. Not only did they make utility clogs, but they also collected them. In 1988, the 'Klompenmuseum Gebr. The foundation of Wietzes was established, which then took control of some 600 pairs of clogs and all kinds of associated tools. In 2002 the foundation became the owner of the total collection, which today consists of around 3,000 pairs of wooden shoes and other wooden soled shoes from 44 countries. In addition to a short film in which Egbert Wietzes shows how wooden shoes are made by hand and machine and a look at the fully equipped workshop, you can also admire the exhibit that changes every year in which old wooden shoes and modern works of art form a nice contrast. The International Museum of Wooden Footwear only employs volunteers without paid staff. The board of the Gebr. The Wietzes Clog Museum Foundation is also made up of volunteers.
