The Heinrich-Heine-Institut is an Institute based in Düsseldorf dedicated to the research and presentation of the life and work of the poet Heinrich Heine, the most important German exponent of that period of transition between Romanticism and Young Germany. The Institute consists of a museum, a library and a conference room. Heine's birthplace is located at Bilkerstrasse 53 and hosts an exhibition entitled Romanticism and Revolution, where you can see manuscripts, first editions and letters, contemporary portraits and Heine's death mask. The museum itinerary is divided into nine rooms that show the fundamental stages of Heine's life. It is the only museum in the world to preserve and display documents and works related to the poet. The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions, with literary, musical and historical-cultural themes.
