The Museum of Dorset, in the city of Dorchester, County Dover, is an English museum of archeology, history and natural sciences, but also has collections relating to literature, fine arts, textiles, costumes, local history and photography.

To date, the museum's collection, born thanks to the legacy of the British scholar Thomas Hardy, has a total of four million objects.

The museum was founded in 1846 and tells the history and territory of the county of Dorset. The current building in which the museum is located was built in 1881 on the former site of the George Inn. The palace, specially designed to house the museum's collection, is in a neo-Gothic style.

The museum's collection includes over 2 million artifacts associated with archeology (e.g. Maiden Castle), geology (e.g. Jurassic Coast), history, local writers (Thomas Hardy himself), and natural sciences. Fossilized dinosaur footprints, Roman mosaics and Thomas Hardy's original manuscripts are also preserved here.
