The show

From 2 May to 2 June 2022, in the splendid setting of the National Gallery of Cosenza, for the first time in Calabria, it will be possible to admire, up close, the fascinating and suggestive woodcuts of the great Japanese masters of the nineteenth century: Hokusai, Hiroshige, Kuniyoshi, Kunisa-da, Hiroshige II, Chikanobu, KyŌsai, Kunichika, Shuntei etc. An extraordinary selection of over 100 works from private collections: from Hokusai's Manga and Gafu to the Fifty-three stations of Hiroshige's Tōkaidō, from the portraits of Kunisada's kabuki actors to Shuntei's samurai, from Hiroshige II's Forty-Eight Famous Views of Edo to Kuniyoshi's visionary tales.

A journey, through the magnifying glass of art, into traditions, history, landscapes, the myth of a great country, Japan, which will give vent to everyone's imagination, which will throw a new light on the "knowledge ”Already acquired, opening up new scenarios. A cultural operation that does not only want to make its audience feel more erudite, but also wants to offer ideas for posthumous reflection: the observation and understanding of "the other" requires a plurality of gazes, our only point of view. sight is not enough .

The exhibition project is curated by Alessandro Mario Toscano and Marco Toscano. The exhibition is organized and produced by the N.9 Association (back from the great public success of the previous exhibitions on Antonio Ligabue and Rembrandt), sponsored by the Giappo- nese di Cultura in Rome, and with the support of Banca Mediolanum.
