The Biomega installation constitutes the final moment of a long and articulated transdisciplinary project that the artist Cosimo Veneziano started in 2016 and which, starting on the use of biotechnologies in the agri-food sector, reflects on central contemporary themes such as the relationship between art and nature and, more specifically, between cultivation, globalization, consumption, marketing and image.
In this process, a fundamental role is represented by the photographic image, which digital processing has made increasingly performing at an aesthetic level, and by visual perception, investigated through sophisticated neuromarketing techniques in order to guide consumers' behaviors and choices. .
The entire work, which consists of an installation made up of screen prints and embroidery on fabric, intends to induce the visitor to wonder about aspects that we experience every day. “The products are presented and sold through advertising images (usually taken from stock photo databases), especially those of a food nature, with which we eat every day. We have even reached a level where the text has very often become an appendix, everything passes through them. "
The work was carried out with the collaboration of the Brain Lab. Department of Neuroscience of the IULM University of Milan.
The work was acquired by the Museum at the end of the project, realized thanks to the support of the DGCC of the Ministry of Culture as part of the seventh edition of the Italian Council program (2019) and promoted by the Sardinian Art Foundation and the Arteco Association. Turin, accompanied by a volume published by Nero edizioni.
