The Grosvenor Museum was built between 1885 and 18866 to house the collections of the Chester Archaeological Society and the Chester Society of Natural Science, Literature and Art, along with schools of science and art. The architect in charge of the project was Thomas Meakin Lockwood. The museum is named after Hugh Lupus Grosvenor, 1st Duke of Westminster, who donated a portion of the land on Grosvenor Street and financed some of the construction costs. The Grosvenor Museum then explores and presents the history of the city in all its facets. The collections, in fact, include sections on archeology, art, natural history, silverware objects.
