Jane Austen House is a house museum dedicated to the famous British writer. In this house, located in the small town of Chawton (Hampshire, England), she lived and composed her literary masterpieces.

The history of the house begins about 500 years ago, when it was built as a wooden house with a thatched roof to be used as a farm and then as an inn.

In 1769 the house was bought by the Knights, distant relatives of the Austens, who, having had no children, formally adopted Jane's brother, Edward, as their heir, giving him the house which, in turn, gave to his mother and her parents. sisters. Jane Austen lived in this house for the last eight years of her life, leaving it in May 1817 to seek medical care in Winchester where she died on July 18, 1817.

To date, the museum hosts a collection of objects that belonged to Jane and her family. These are books, handwritten letters, furniture, clothes and even drawings.
