From 26 November to 9 January 2023
The award ceremony of the winners of Wiki Loves Monuments Calabria 2022 , the regional edition of Wiki Loves Monuments , the Italian version of the largest photographic competition in the world, was held on Saturday 26 November at the Sibaritide National Archaeological Museum. A competition dedicated to monuments, which encourages all citizens to document their cultural heritage by taking photographs with a free license, in full compliance with copyright and Italian legislation on the matter. In fact, there are over 1600 photos collected during the regional contest (the theme chosen this year concerns castles and fortifications) which will enrich Wikipedia , the largest online encyclopedia in the world, and the Wikimedia Italia projects, thus promoting the diffusion of Italian culture in the world.
The event also represented an opportunity to award a special prize reserved for photos taken in Calabrian museums and their collections. Precisely in 2022, the Regional Directorate of Museums of Calabria, the Archaeological Park of Sibari and the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria, sent Wikimedia Italia the authorization to photograph in 19 museums in the region thus leading to the establishment of a recognition hoc.
In addition to the Director Filippo Demma and Marco Chemello of Wikimedia Italia, volunteers, journalists, public administrators, entrepreneurs and industry experts were present at the ceremony.
The Wiki Loves Monuments Calabria 2022 exhibition will be open to the public in the halls of the Sibaritide National Archaeological Museum from Sunday until Monday 9 January 2023. To find out a preview of the ten finalist shots, you can browse the gallery available on the Wikimedia Italia website.
