Naturalia et Mirabilia is the unpublished series that Anna Corcione created for the National Archaeological Museum of Sibaritide: canvases enriched with organic fragments collected in the archaeological sites of the park. A tribute to the territory explored and internalized by the artist over the years. A reflection on the union between human beings and nature with the proposal of a reading of time through vegetation.

Interaction and temporariness continue to inspire the Archaeological Park of Sibari in the relationships that, through its cultural proposal, it wants to weave between temporal dimensions, places and territory, in the community.

Filippo Demma , director of the Park and interim director of the Calabria Regional Museums Directorate, states: “Welcoming the temporary exhibition Naturalia et Mirabilia by Anna Corcione in the National Archaeological Museum of Sibari means hosting a site-specific work with nature as the protagonist, real fragments of the Sibaritide landscape, as it inspired the artist. Nothing is left to chance in the works that appear in the rooms of the Museum: each is linked to the archaeological context in which it is placed, enhancing its peculiarities in a constant dialogue between past and present, ancient and contemporary horizon. Naturalia et Mirabilia is an inseparable combination between nature and culture, it is observing the ancient through unusual eyes, using unusual tools, it is approaching the very close relationship that - has always - linked the human being and his choices to the environment that created him welcomed and in which he chose to live, through an artistic transfiguration of its characteristic botanical species. The works that make up Naturalia et Mirabilia open up new forms of dialogue with the temporary display of the Museum, whose language passes through precise artistic choices. The story of vegetation is closely intertwined with the interaction between archeology and territory, museums and communities, landscapes, nature and vegetation. This link becomes even more significant in light of the relationship that links the macroremains - exhibited here for the first time to the public - found in the sanctuary of the oriental divinities of the Roman Copiae - to aspects that involve ancient vegetation, rituality, as well as specific cultic peculiarities of the divinity".

The Archaeological Park of Sibari, with this new temporary exhibition, continues to update its capital of testimonies and knowledge by offering new and engaging visit experiences, designed to stimulate understanding of the heritage, cultural curiosity, attention to historical processes, love of knowledge.
