Francotto House

Francotto House

Casa Francotto is an exhibition space in the city of Busca, in the province of Cuneo. The building, of eclectic taste, was born on a pre-existing eighteenth-century plant. It is located in the historic center. The façade, of particular and characteristic workmanship, overlooks Piazza Regina Margherita. Ernesto Francotto was born in Busca on 13 December 1883. Orphaned by his father at a very young age, he moved with his mother and brother Edoardo to Turin, where he graduated in Medicine with full marks. He immediately promises a brilliant university career, but he soon abandons his research activities to return to his native country where he practiced the activity of a doctor for over fifty years, demonstrating great professional skills and rare human skills. He devoted himself to poetry from an early age and kept in touch with Costa, Brofferio and other exponents of the Piedmontese literary world. Some lyrics appear in local and regional periodicals, his only collection of living verses was published in 1965. El nòst cioché (1968) and Il Medico (1972) are published posthumously. Around the age of forty he began to deal with painting even though he did not become part of artistic circles. He leaves a large production, most of which ended up in private collections. He died in Busca on 4 August 1968. At the behest of his will, Doctor Francotto left all his possessions, including this house of his birth, to the City of Busca.
