Nicolò Degiorgis portrays the ephemeral beauty of alpine mountain landscapes and their inhabitants. His photographic series, whose character is poetic, experimental and documentary at the same time, allow us to get to know these sensitive spaces from a new perspective. Degiorgis thus unhinges our visual habits, conditioned by the complex of images typical of advertising aesthetics. Photographic installations, artist's books, objects, collages and audiovisual works are the means through which a new understanding of the imperceptible and inevitable change of a landscape considered eternal is emerging.
Farms.Flakes.Peaks is the continuation of a multi-year research project dedicated to the natural and cultural landscape of the Dolomites. Created as an artist's book in 2019, the PEAK work consists of a series of black and white photographic images of mountain peaks and rock formations and in the spaces of the LUMEN it is presented both as a large-format installation and as an art object by small size. Symbol of the fragility of alpine nature is the snowflake, whose beauty and uniqueness are made visible through photographic collages. In the second room, the artist portrays some South Tyrolean farms and the people who live there in photographic works with a documentary and surreal character at the same time.
The play of visual contrasts, in the small-sized collages as well as in the full-wall formats, of the shades of chiaroscuro in the succession of the seasons and of the hours of the day, and the experimentation of different video recording techniques and visual languages, allow to raise awareness and refine our perception and judgment skills.
